Apple is set on making things simple for its users and now, a new feature announced during a developer session will make it possible for you to sign up on websites using just Face ID or Touch ID.

As the yearly tradition, at WWDC 2021, Apple announced their major Software upgrades to their products including iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and MacOS Monterey.

During a developer session at WWDC 2021, called “Move Beyond Passwords”, Apple introduced a new technology called “Passkeys” and will make it possible for you to sign up for services and websites without the need for a password. Of course, the website will have to support this new tech, and when you enter your username of choice during the signup process, you will be able to use Face ID or Touch ID to authenticate yourself.

As of today, Passwords are the most popular way of securing accounts or data. But there are a lot of issues where passwords can phished, forgotten, and they’re insecure if not used properly (think about the number of times you’ve been tempted to re-use same password across multiple accounts).

Apple thinks with its new Passkeys feature they can resolve these problems as shown in the chart below.
